Presenting the Historic El-Funoun Canada Tour

Cultural circles and the Arab community in Montreal are anticipating a major artistic event, straight from Ramallah, Palestine, this coming fall, as the Palestinian "El-Funoun Troupe" makes a stop in the historic city as part of its upcoming 2026 North American tour. The visit by this internationally award-winning troupe brings with it a major production that strengthens cultural ties and presents the legacy of Palestinian dance and folklore with a contemporary vision that speaks to both Canadian and Arab audiences alike.

The historic L'Olympia theatre in the heart of Montreal will host the Palestinian troupe's most prominent Canadian performance on Tuesday, October 27, 2026. The theatre will showcase the troupe's newest and grandest production, titled “Ya Saheb Al Tair” (The Bird Owner) featuring a full cast of 30 dancers. The show consists of 15 dances exploring Palestinian resilience, heritage, and 76 years of living memory.

The performance is expected to present live choreographic tableaux blending traditional dabke with contemporary dance, interwoven with music and epic storytelling that expresses Palestinian identity, memory, and human experience. Montreal serves as a key stop on the Canadian tour, which also includes Mississauga (Greater Toronto Area) and Ottawa, organized by the "Mosaic of Cultures" foundation in collaboration with a number of local community organizations, including our very own Canadian Palestinian Foundation of Quebec.

Ahead of its full performing troupe's arrival on Canadian stages in October, the group will begin its North American tour in September through a smaller artistic delegation leading a series of interactive workshops and discussion panels titled "Tawasol" (Connect) across several U.S. states, including New York, Minnesota, and California, aiming to teach dabke and pass on heritage knowledge to younger generations in the diaspora.

This tour marks the Art Troupe's return to international stages after a pause in its activities over the past few years, which had a significant impact on the Palestinian cultural sector. The tour offers members of the Palestinian diaspora community a chance to reconnect with Palestinian culture, while introducing a broader Canadian audience to a globally respected artistic heritage.

Organizers have announced that ticket booking for the Montreal show is now open through official authorized platforms, with expectations of notable audience turnout given the esteemed artistic standing of the Palestinian Popular Art Troupe as one of the foremost guardians of living identity and culture since its founding in the late 1970s.
